Information for Residents

Street Closures

On the day of a Streets Alive! event, residents along the route need to remove their cars from the closed streets for the duration of Streets Alive!  to minimize danger to people who are expecting no cars along the route. Parking is available on nearby streets, and we warmly invite you to participate in Streets Alive! Ithaca.

On Sunday, September 16th, 2018, S Plain St will be closed from Green St to (Old) Elmira Rd, and W Clinton St will be closed from Corn St to Geneva St (see map here). Cars will not be able to cross the route at any time during the event, except for residents that must drive their cars to or from an adjacent driveway. With setup and cleanup for the event, residents will need to move their cars by 12 PM (noon) on the day of the event and will be able to return their cars after the event is over. Any cars remaining on the street during the event are subject to tow. People with special needs should contact Bike Walk Tompkins at 607-301-3181 or at info@streetsaliveithaca.com to coordinate alternatives. Residents who do not have any other alternative but to cross the route to access their homes can do so by requesting the assistance of our volunteers.

Alternate Routes

Vehicle traffic must seek alternate routes and cannot cross the closed streets for the safety of Streets Alive! participants. All intersections will be managed by trained Streets Alive! Intersection Volunteers.

In the case of an emergency, residents with cars parked in off-street driveways will be able to drive their car to the nearest cross street. Before moving your vehicle, PLEASE ALERT a Streets Alive! volunteer (in a bright t-shirt) to ensure safety for the participants on the street. Emergency vehicles will have access to all households along the route.

We look forward to seeing our neighbors at the 2018 Streets Alive! Ithaca and thank you very much for your cooperation.
